London is one of the places that I hold dearly to my heart, along with New York. I always say I’m a city gal, and whatever city I am in is my favourite – but truthfully I can’t actually choose! So one way a city can sway my opinion is not only an easy transport system (check) but also plenty of green space for walking and relaxing.
Shaun in the City Challenge!
When we went down to London for a random weekend away last May, we noticed loads of Shaun the Sheep statues peppered across the city. We weren’t sure what it was for but after coming home and reading all about it, it was part of a charity art trail across London, organised by Wallace & Gromit’s Children’s Foundation. Us being us, we thought it was fun to take a picture with every one we came across, even if it did mean waiting 10 minutes for all the six year olds to stop playing on it.
Isles of Glencoe Hotel & Leisure Centre
As you know, J and I headed up to Glencoe for the weekend as part of our Valentines gifts to each other. (I always say I would rather an experience over a wrapped gift any day!) After a few online deliberations, we chose the Isles of Glencoe to be our choice of destination for the weekend, mainly because of the price, location (on the banks of Loch Leven) and the fact that it had a pool/Jacuzzi facilities – we had an idea the weather might not be the best for all day exploring so we wanted a hotel where we could relax indoors if needed.
Road Trip to Glencoe
I was hoping our road trip from Glasgow to Glencoe would be full of bright blue skies and rolling green hills. Unfortunately not, it was rainy rainy rainy…and the night forecasted for a visit from storm Katie. Being true scots, we dug out our North Face’s and wellies and set off with our google maps lady shouting at us. This was our holiday after all, and I was determined we were going to have a brilliant time.
Authentic Scottish Food at Auld Raes
If you don’t know Auld Raes then you really should. From the outside, you would easily mistake it for a little outbuilding nestled in the car park of East Kilbride’s village. You would walk by it if you didn’t know what you were looking for. However, when you walk inside, everything changes.
The People’s Palace & Winter Gardens, Glasgow
Another beautiful spring day meant I was dying to get out and about for a walk. We went out for a family lunch at Auld Raes in East Kilbride before taking a casual wander around the Winter Gardens in Glasgow Green. I had been in here before but only saw part of it as there was a wedding on and the middle section was closed off.
The Best View of Glasgow
With Glasgow showing signs of spring (and patches of winter) we decided to make the most of the sunshine and calm weather. I love going on little spontaneous adventures or road trips, even if we don’t get out the car, I just love seeing new things. I hate sitting in the house. So after running some errands, I did what I usually do when I don’t want to go home; this is how the conversation goes:
Where I’m Travelling To In 2016
It’s that time of the year again for us 9-5’ers to start meticulously planning our holidays out, given out circa 28 paid annual leave days. Jamie and I have agreed this year that we will try to keep our trips to small weekends away at a time, and try to save up for a big long-haul adventure next year.
Dinner, Dessert & Drinks: My 24 Hours in Glasgow
Despite living in central Glasgow for my entire 24 years, I still read blog posts and reviews on things to do, places to eat etc. because it is such an abundance of creativity, worldwide food, live music, elite sport, history, culture – the list is non-exhaustive. There are constantly places popping up in every corner that is pushing the social boundaries of the city.
Ticking off my Bucket List: John O’Groats
Back in November I traveled up to Golspie for a special family birthday. I published posts on where we stayed and the top 5 things to do in the Highlands, but I wanted to go into more detail about John O’Groats as it was always a place on my bucket list. It’s one of those places, there isn’t much there but it’s great to say you’ve been and to take the iconic image beside the pole.
