The Glasgow Christmas market is almost always overlooked for their friendly neighbours on the east coast – Edinburgh. With not only one market but two, Glasgow has a lot to offer for locals and visitors. The two markets are located in St Enoch Square and George Square, and offer an array of European hot foods, sweets, handmade trinkets and alcohol (think hot ciders and mulled wine!).
Living in a big city can feel claustrophobic sometimes, and most of the time you don’t notice it until you get out away from it and smell the fresh air. Whether you live in Glasgow or Edinburgh, there are plenty of alternative destinations to the two big cities within only an hour or two drive, train or bus.
Glasgow has SO much to offer to both tourists and locals. The city is primarily split into two sections – the city centre and the west end – that involves most restaurants, tourist attractions, pubs and fun activities. I’ve condensed the list down to just 21 (I have 100 more that I will probably spread out into different posts!) so that you don’t get bored half way through reading. Glasgow is often advertised as a vibrant city that is steeped in history, offering up great bars, restaurants and shopping opportunities. But everyone seems to forget about the good ol’ greenery that Glasgow has to offer. After visiting Go Ape a few few weeks ago, we never really got a chance to see the rest of Aberfoyle because we were busy swing from the trees for 3 hours. We thought since we were free last Sunday that it would be a great opportunity to make the drive back up and take a wander around the main street and surrounding areas to see what there was to do and see.
Glasgow is home to one of the fiercest football (or soccer) rivalries in the world: The Old Firm. With attendances averaging 50,000 at each home match, Rangers and Celtic are two of Glasgow’s most celebrated clubs in the UK. Unfortunately getting to see them play each other is virtually impossible unless you have a season ticket or know someone closely involved with either team. Nevertheless, it’s easy to get hold of a ticket for every other league home game.
Last weekend Jamie and I headed up to Aberfoyle for a day swinging from the trees at Go Ape. The only way that I can describe Go Ape is that it is a tree-top adventure obstacle course that really gets every part of your body working and really pushes the boundaries of what you thought your limitations were. We had always wanted to go here but with life getting in the way it was just something another thing that we had forgotten to do this summer.

As part of a hen weekend away in Blair Atholl and Pitlochry, I finally got to do something I had always dreamed but never knew was accessible to general public folk like me. That thing was Segwaying. I don’t mean these little boards that spoiled rich kids on YouTube are scooting around on, no I mean the big chunky two-wheeled vehicles with handles for stability. And yes the ones that DON’T catch fire after a few uses *ahem*.
